Why Your Refrigeration Unit Isn’t Cold Enough

Refrigeration Equipment in India

If you open your fridge and find warm wine or milk that has gone bad, you should know that it isn’t cooling well enough. The problem is not just annoying and smelly; it is also bad for your health. Mold and food-borne pathogens can grow in fridges that are not cool enough.

Most of the time, you don’t need to buy a new fridge right away. Some repairs may need to be done by a professional at some point, but others are easy to do and don’t require special tools or skills.

Here are a few simple reasons why your refrigerator might not be cooling.

The Problem with the Door Gaskets

When you close a refrigerator door, the door gaskets ensure that it is sealed. If the gaskets on the door are torn or loose, cold air can leak out, leaving the refrigerator warm. Also, opening and closing the fridge over and over again could be a cause because every time you open it, warm air from outside replaces the cold inside.

Unclean Condenser Coils

If the condenser coils are dirty, the fridge might not work right. The back or bottom is where you can find these coils. If this is the case, you can clean the coil area by running a vacuum cleaner over it while the fridge is unplugged.

Frost-free Function Doesn’t Work

If the frost-free feature doesn’t work, frost will build up around the freezer’s evaporator coils. This makes the fan that moves cold air around the house stop working. Frost can also hurt the fan if it hits it. When a fan blade gets broken, it makes a lot of noise because the fan is no longer balanced.

Controlling the temperature wrongly or not at all

If the thermostat is broken, the refrigerator won’t stay as cold as you want it to. Check for this problem and also make sure the temperature is set right. Most refrigerators equipment are set to about 0°C (32°F), while freezers are usually set to about -17°C (1.4°F).

The Refrigerator Doesn’t Get Enough Air

If too many food items are in a refrigerator, it may not be able to keep all of them at a cool enough temperature. The things on top tend to get colder faster than the things underneath. A refrigerator that doesn’t work well can also have very few things. Ensure that your refrigerator always has enough food, but not so much that it blocks the airflow.

Vents Between Freezer and Refrigerator are Clogged

Vents between the freezer and the fridge make it possible for cold air to move from the freezer to the refrigerator. These vents shouldn’t get clogged with ice, but if for some reason they do, the fridge won’t cool down because air can’t flow as well. If this is the case, unplugging the fridge, waiting for the ice to melt, and then re-plugging it should resolve the issue.

Door Switch Problem

The door switch is located around the edge of where the refrigerator door opens. This switch can be turned on or off from this area. When you close the door, it turns off the light in the fridge and starts cooling again. If this switch isn’t working right, the refrigerator won’t cool as it should, and the heat from the interior light might also keep it from turning off.

Refrigerant Leak

A refrigerant leak is very unlikely, but it can make your fridge stop working. If you think this is wrong, you should call a service technician.

Air circulation in the fridge is limited

Don’t put too much food in your fridge because it will slow down the flow of air. Because of this, some of the food in the refrigerator might not be as cool as it should be.

Most of the time, the food at the top will be colder than at the bottom. A fridge with little food in it may also stop working well. Ensure enough food is in the refrigerator to stay at the right temperature.

Location affects the ability to cool

If the refrigerator is somewhere warm or cold, like outside or in a garage, it can affect how well it cools. If the garage is too cold, the fridge won’t know what to do and won’t cool the food inside. The refrigerator will work hard to cool it down if it’s hot in the garage.

Even if the fridge is in a vast room, hot appliances like dishwashers, ranges, or ovens that are close by can make it less effective at cooling.

There isn’t enough electricity

Sometimes, the problem is caused by something as simple as the plug. The refrigerator might not be plugged in, or the plug might be loose. This could be the problem if the fridge’s light doesn’t turn on and the inside isn’t cold. If the fridge’s inside is cold, but there’s no light, it’s probably because the bulb is burned out.
